A ship carrying about 150 migrants from Gambia to Europe sank on Wednesday off the coast of Mauritania, the United Nations migrant agency said.

Rescue vessels picked up 22 survivors from the boat, which had set off from Tunisia, but the Italian Coast Guard said it feared that many others might have died.
